Kaboom! Project at Guadalupe Park KaBOOM! has awarded the La Habra Family Resource Center and the City of La Habra a KaBOOM! Playground grant. KaBOOM! is a national non-profit organization dedicated to bringing "play" back into the lives of children. They passionately believe that "play" has purpose, and they are driven to create a movement in support of this belief. This grant will allow us to come together and build a healthy and fun playground in a matter of weeks; as well as build a strong sense of community involvement.
The location selected for the playground is Guadalupe Park located off of Walnut St. here in the city of La Habra. Over 250 community volunteers will come together and build a playground on July 24th 2010.
Goals of the project:
- Build a playground with the involvement of the entire community.
- Fundraise $7,500 by June 22, 2010 to help pay for some of the playground equipment.
- Provide a safe and family friendly environment during Build Day on July 24, 2010.
- Provide enough food and water for 30 volunteers during Prep Day on July 22, 2010 and for 250 volunteers on Build Day.
- Incorporate community involvement by inviting local residents, nonprofits, businesses and schools to volunteer on construction days or contribute donations.
- Develop a sense of community ownership and pride over playground site.
